Your uniqueness is your magic. ✨ Happy Friday from the Old Oakland Farmers’ Market.
The Oakland Public Library will be biking over to the Old Oakland Farmers’ Market every 1st Friday with their mobile free book shelf! Today librarians Sadie and Wendy brought the “Share The Love” collection. All books were donated or bought with a grant and are free to the public. They are also available to sign you up on the spot for your very own library card!
In collaboration with @civicdesignstudio510 and @e14gallery Oakland’s Yu Ming Charter School, a Mandarin bilingual emersion school is helping us celebrate the Lunar New Year today from 9am-1pm at the @OldOaklandFarmersMarket!
100 students will be leading the public in calligraphy, lantern making and recyclable art. Artwork will appear in windows in Old Oakland and Swans.
Students will be by to offer you decorations to put in your windows. You can of course decline! Lunar New Year day is Feb 16, so if you do put up decorations you can leave them up til then.
Also this Friday, we are having a lion dance from 11am-1pm. The lion will start in the farmers market from 11-noon, and be stopping by your stores, offices and businesses from 12noon-1pm.
If you would like to give a blessing to the lion as they pass by your store, students will stop by earlier in the morning with a red envelope and instructions. There is no pressure to participate, and if you want to, put a small donation into the red envelope and present to the lion as it passes by (you will hear the drums).
Come celebrate the Lunar New Year with us today at the Old Oakland Farmers’ Market! The lion dancers will be rolling through the market, downtown stores, and businesses at 11am! Listen for the drums! 🌙🐕🎊🦁

Urban Village stands in solidarity with a #DayWithoutImmigrants. There is no doubt that our US immigration system is complicated. What is not complicated is our love and respect for the hard working people that puts food on our table. The state of California feeds the country, and California agriculture depends on immigrant labor.
