Job Description:
The Assistant Manager position is dynamic, interesting, and meaningful. Our ideal candidate will reliably complete assigned duties and contribute creative ideas to further the market’s mission. We seek a candidate with initiative and self-direction, as well as an ability to work collaboratively with other key players supporting the market.
Position: Assistant Market Manager
Saturdays at our Sunnyvale Farmers' Market
Sundays at our Palo Alto Farmers' Market
Part Time (16-18 hrs/wk)
Pay: $20 / hour DOE (Qualifies for overtime and annual cost of living increases)
Estimated start date: Mid-December 2019 (1 -2 year commitment preferred)
Assistant Market Manager Responsibilities:
• Reliably available to work 8-hour shifts on Saturdays, with an early start time, year-round. (and /or Sundays if interested in the Palo Alto Location)
• General supervision of market activities
• Enforcement of health and agriculture laws (Full Training will be provided),
• Maintaining general safety at the market, enforcing UVFM rules, and assisting in conflict resolution as needed.
• Assisting the Manager with fee collection, moderate lifting (40 lbs), and other tasks as required.
• Assist with setup, management, and breakdown of the market. In the manager’s absence, the assistant manager will perform all tasks related to running the market.
• Customer service. Support at the Information Booth. Treat all customers and vendors respectfully and courteously, providing engaged and attentive customer service from start to finish of the market day.
• Other duties as assigned by the market manager.
Skills & Experience:
• Be detail-oriented, dependable, and punctual
• Have enthusiasm or passion for sharing information on farming, tips for cooking or food preservation is a bonus.
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires extensive outdoor, physical work, setup and breakdown of events, and more
• Be comfortable speaking to small groups of people about the market’s goals and programs, including the EBT and Market Match program.
• Have proven customer service skills and a high-energy, positive, and friendly attitude
• Fluent in English (conversational level of the Spanish or Cantonese language is a bonus.)
• A minimum of a one-year commitment preferred
Additional Requirements:
• A computer and printer with internet access, a cell phone for internal staff communication
• Reliable transportation and a valid CA driver’s license
• Having a truck or vehicle that can haul barricades/other market equipment is a Plus!
• The ability to lift 40 pounds
• The ability to stand/walk around at the market for 8 hours with minimal opportunities to sit down
• The ability to work outside in all weather conditions, year-round
